Manager & Actuary – Medical Cost Trend & Forecasting Responsibilities:

  • Support trend updates on a monthly basis for all segments including analyzing trends, forecasting future costs, and identifying drivers of variances vs. expected results.
  • Provide trend support for major company initiatives such as annual pricing exercises and AOP/reforecast/segment strategy.
  • Implement best practices from a modeling perspective to optimize team resources. Proactively review advanced data analytic methods and identify opportunities to incorporate into team processes and improve predictive performance.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with key stakeholders both in the actuarial department and in other functional areas. Represent actuarial during meetings with management and educate stakeholders up to the executive level on the financial impact of emerging trends by segment.
  • Monitor industry news and ensure the company is competitively well-positioned in a dynamic marketplace.
  • Manage 2-4 Analysts:  communicates and balances key priorities, delegates work appropriately, and provides performance feedback and coaching to this team. Supports analysts to facilitate completion of their exams as well as their actuarial and professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or related field or equivalent work experience
  • ASA or FSA Required (FSA preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in a Health Insurance Actuarial department (trend experience preferred but not required)
  • Solid mathematical background including extensive experience working with risk models, actuarial or mathematical analysis, and using automated or statistical analysis tools. 
  • Proven ability to manage projects to a successful conclusion as well as the ability to identify best practices and methods 
  • Effective facilitation and presentation skills required to demonstrate medical cost trend drivers in a clear and concise manner to all levels of management
  • Strong organizational and project-planning skills

Hybrid:

Independence has implemented a “Hybrid” model which consists of Associates working in the office 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) and remotely 2 days a week (Monday & Friday). This role is designated as a role that fits into the “Hybrid” model. While associates may work remotely on our designated remote days, the work must be performed in the Tri-State Area of Delaware, New Jersey, or Pennsylvania.
