About the Department

The Commercial Risk Analytics team leverages data, technology, and business insights to strengthen Independence Blue Cross's ACA and Medicare Risk Adjustment programs. The team is focused on improving data accuracy, supporting regulatory compliance, identifying financial and operational risks, and delivering actionable reporting that enables informed business decisions.

This work directly supports the IHG 2030 strategy by advancing healthcare affordability and outcomes through accurate risk adjustment, driving operational excellence through improved efficiency and automation, and helping reshape the organization through analytics, artificial intelligence, and technology-driven innovation.

 

Position Summary

The Risk Analytics Analyst Co-op will gain hands-on experience supporting strategic initiatives that impact key business outcomes. Working alongside experienced professionals, the co-op will analyze healthcare data, build reports and dashboards, automate processes, and develop insights that support operational and financial decision-making.

This role provides exposure to industry-leading tools and technologies, including SQL, Python, Tableau, Microsoft 365, and Microsoft Copilot. Students will have the opportunity to strengthen their technical, analytical, and communication skills while making meaningful contributions within a collaborative team environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor ACA EDGE Server submission operations and support related data validation and reporting activities.
  • Assist with the annual ACA Risk Adjustment Data Validation (RADV) audit, including sample tracking, chart collection, record preparation, and audit-readiness activities.
  • Retrieve reports and files from vendor portals and secure file transfer sites; organize records and maintain accurate tracking documentation.
  • Prepare, rename, batch, transmit, archive, and reconcile medical records submitted to external auditors while following established file-naming and data-handling protocols.
  • Utilize SQL, Python, Excel, and Tableau to extract, transform, validate, reconcile, and analyze large datasets.
  • Develop and maintain RADV dashboards, weekly status reports, operational forecasts, and leadership presentations.
  • Investigate data discrepancies, validate reporting results, coordinate resolution efforts with internal stakeholders and external vendors, and escalate issues when appropriate.
  • Create and maintain process documentation, workflow diagrams, job aids, and standard operating procedures to support consistent execution and knowledge transfer.
  • Translate operational metrics into actionable business insights, trends, and forecasts that support decision-making.
  • Support ongoing process improvement and automation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and data quality.

 

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills, including experience working with large datasets.
  • Experience with data extraction, transformation, validation, quality assurance, and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases, with experience analyzing large data sets.
  • Experience with Tableau or other data visualization platforms preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Visio.
  • Experience using Microsoft Copilot and other AI-enabled tools to analyze information, automate tasks, and improve productivity.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Experience with one or more analytical tools or technologies such as Python, R, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Visual Studio, or Google BigQuery preferred.

  • Junior or Senior undergraduate students
  • Recent graduates (must be within one year of the co-op start date)

 

Minimum GPA

3.2 GPA or higher
