The Corporate Development & Strategic Investments Director leads enterprise efforts to identify, evaluate, and execute strategic growth opportunities across M&A, joint ventures, partnerships, and minority investments. This leader partners closely with senior executives to shape enterprise strategy as it relates to corporate development, manage a pipeline of opportunities, conduct financial and strategic diligence, and drive transactions from sourcing through integration planning. The role operates at the intersection of strategy, finance, and operations, influencing decisions that shape the long‑term direction of the enterprise.

Responsibilities

Corporate development and strategic investments

  • In collaboration with leadership, develop the strategic plan for initiatives related to mergers, acquisitions, strategic partnerships & divestitures
  • Lead end‑to‑end transaction execution including sourcing, diligence, valuation, deal structuring, negotiations, and integration planning.
  • Develop business cases and financial models to assess acquisitions, divestitures, partnerships, and JV structures.
  • Manage cross-functional diligence teams across finance, actuarial, legal, clinical, operations, IT, HR etc.
  • Prepare executive recommendations, investment memos, and other materials needed for senior executive and Board level discussions
  • Develop a strategic investment thesis aligned with enterprise growth priorities

Portfolio management and strategic business development

  • Manage relationships with existing portfolio companies, PE/VC partners, and potential investors.
  • Monitor strategic, financial, and operational performance of investments; recommend optimization actions or exit strategies.
  • Partner with functional leaders to support business growth including introducing potential partners, new market solutions addressing business priorities
  • Evaluates and develops new market initiatives and create strategy for the analysis of new business opportunities in both new and existing markets.

 

Qualifications

Education

  • MBA/MS/MA. BA/BS in Business Administration, Public Health, Marketing, or equivalent discipline

Experience

  • Eight or more years of progressively more responsible experience in corporate development, investment banking, private equity, management consulting or related strategic business development areas in healthcare

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Proven track record leading complex transactions including deal structure, partnership terms, due diligence and other processes associated with transaction/partnership execution
  • Strong financial modeling skills and mastery of valuation methodologies.
  • Exceptional executive communication skills and ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of healthcare economics, payer/provider business models, and industry trends.
  • Strong understanding and experience working with financing partners including investment banks, PE firms; as well as companies across different aspects of healthcare (e.g. payers, health systems, health IT)

Hybrid

Independence has implemented a “Hybrid” model which consists of Associates working in the office 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) and remotely 2 days a week (Monday & Friday). This role is designated as a role that fits into the “Hybrid” model. While associates may work remotely on our designated remote days, the work must be performed in the Tri-State Area of Delaware, New Jersey or Pennsylvania.
