The Director Product Development & Management leads the Product and Capability team to identify, investigate, and prioritize new product and capability opportunities.  The individual will lead the team that develops compelling business cases and acts as a champion for innovative ideas across the organization. Works with the VP of Product Services and focuses on the execution of the Product strategy, to help drive new business and improve retention.

  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with Sales and Marketing, Underwriting, Actuarial, Network, Corporate Development, Corporate Strategy, Corporate Research and consultants and brokers to facilitate and drive strong product development.
  • Drives innovative development of new products and capabilities for Commercial and Consumer business, aligned with the corporate strategy and objectives.
  • Oversees the strategy and process for development, prioritization and early execution of innovative products and capabilities. 
  • Provides oversight and accountability for the delivery of compelling business cases to secure prioritization and support of products and capabilities. 
  • Position interfaces with senior Leadership across the organization to obtain support. 
  • Develops opportunity protocol including ideation sessions, prioritization and feasibility process/ assessment, and business case development.
  • Provides early leadership to move approved ideas into execution.  As the early driver of execution of approved products and capabilities, begins the execution of business plans and creatively solves product design, financial, marketing and administrative challenges.
  • Ensures the team continues to build a sense of ownership and accountability for the ongoing success of implemented products and capabilities.  This includes continuing to enhance the capability, supporting sales and go-to-market success, ensuring efficient and effective operationalization, and managing ongoing vendor relationships if applicable.
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. 
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. 
  • Responsible for staff recruitment, selection, training, development and management.
  • Liaises with divisions across the organization to ensure support and effective execution of products and capabilities.
  • Position will interface with senior Sales leadership and Key Account clients to determine project plan and goals for each new group or renewal.  Position will also interface with senior leadership in Operations and BTS to ensure smooth process end-to-end.
  • Position will require some travel to client sites no greater than 25%

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Health Care Administration or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10-15 years’ experience in product development/management or marketing capacity.  Healthcare industry, strategy development, account services, or health plan operations experience preferred 
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a fast-paced, deadline driven team
  • Working knowledge of self-funded and fully insured health plans
  • Working knowledge of how benefits are constructed
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, to include influencing others and negotiation
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Experience in innovative problem solving
  • Experience in meeting and workshop facilitation
  • Excellent network within the organization and strong relationship building skills
  • Problem solver and self-starter

  • Passion and energy for driving and supporting change
  • Ability to lead multiple and varied initiatives and activities simultaneously
  • Experience in sales or customer-facing role

Independence has implemented a “Hybrid” model which consists of Associates working in the office 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) and remotely 2 days a week (Monday & Friday). This role is designated as a role that fits into the “Hybrid” model. While associates may work remotely on our designated remote days, the work must be performed in the Tri-State Area of Delaware, New Jersey or Pennsylvania.
